Donning Multiple Hats: The Art of Racing in the Rain

As the Sun changes its direction throughout the day, so does my life. With time, my outfits change, my roles change and my surrounding people change.

The day starts with my morning ritual, i.e., my second love #badminton.

Since my 30s, badminton has made a special place in my heart. It’s not just a hobby or passion for me but a revitalising catalyst that keeps me energised the whole day.

I feel sport is not just limited to the playground, instead, it teaches us a lot to thrive in our professional and personal lives. For example, we only lose when our mind loses, not when our body loses.

Once the surgeries are done, I don my another important role, i.e., #healthpreneur.

Soon I enter my office, my desk is loaded with an array of tasks like taking morning meetings with key stakeholders, managing daily operations and participating in conferences. And a lot more.

This donning and doffing goes on throughout the day. But I always ensure that whatever I’m doing, I put my heart and soul into it – this is my mantra in business.

My Journey in Healthcare

After completing MBBS and Super Speciality training in Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement, I realised the need for creating a healthcare ecosystem that can deliver world-class care at a fraction of the cost.

This led me to pursue the Advanced Healthcare Management Program (AMPH) from the prestigious B-School, ISB, where I learned the intricacies of business management, finance, supply chain, marketing and organisational behaviour.

I started my entrepreneurship journey with a Bone & Joint Clinic in Dwarka, New Delhi, in 2011 where I got the opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of hospital operations, patient management, and the importance of teamwork in delivering high-quality care.

With time, I well-understood the need to foster a culture that welcomes inclusivity, and encourages input from diverse stakeholders — medical professionals, administrators, and support staff.

This collaborative approach ensures that decisions are well-informed and aligned with the organisation’s mission of providing exceptional healthcare services to the community at large.

Building Brands from Scratch

With God’s grace and the hard efforts of my team, the brand has performed exceptionally wonderful, becoming a household name in just seven years of inception.

The hospital currently offers over 35 specialities. Some of them have even earned a global reputation, with patients from over 50+ countries seeking quality care at our facility.

Seeing the trust of people and growing demand, the brand made a significant stride last year by opening another hospital in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, branded as Aakash Healthcare Multi Speciality Hospital.

Realising the need for revolutionising healthcare in countries where quality healthcare is still at stake, we launched another brand, ANVKA Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.

Under the banner of this organisation, we became the first Indian brand to completely acquire a full-fledged hospital in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2022, and branded it as Aakash Healthcare Multi Speciality Hospital.

In 2023, we launched four more ventures under the aegis of our sister concern – ANVKA Healthcare Pvt. Ltd:

• LINTEX: Medical & corporate uniforms & accessories.
• Cure with 3D: In-house 3D printing lab to create surgical guides, jigs and implants for surgical planning and patient education.
• F&B outsourcing & management: High-quality food & beverages at an affordable price.
• International Guest Homes for International Patients.

Creating the Future Leaders

Over time, I recognised the need for leaders in healthcare who can rein the industry towards excellence with the growing demand.

In line with this, we launched a self-designed, 9-month certificate leadership program, the Aakash Healthcare Leadership Program (AHLP).

The program is meant for our in-house team wherein our apex team and industry stalwarts walk the selected candidates through the intricacies of healthcare operations, administration, and management.

This one-of-its-kind initiative has not only given our team a learning opportunity but also created new leaders who are taking on new roles and responsibilities with time.

Contribution to Healthcare Ecosystem

I feel privileged to be part of several renowned governing bodies that help me to contribute to the healthcare sector.

I have served as a Co-Chair of the International Affairs Committee for Europe & CIS of PHDCCI, a Co-Chairperson of the ASSOCHAM National Council on Healthcare, and a member of the General Body of MIICCIA.

सेवा परमो धर्म (Social Welfare is the Supreme Religion)

In a developing country where 189.2 million people still go to bed hungry every night and around 50% of children don’t have access to quality education after primary schooling, there is a very much need to make a difference right from the grassroot level.

It’s ‘we’ who together can change these stats and make India stand on top in education and health. From my end, I feel fortunate to be a part of various NGOs, notably Sneh Kunj and Choti Si Khushi.

Through these initiatives and collaboration with schools, I strive to make basic facilities available to the future minds of our country for their good health and education.

Recently, I have launched a transformative initiative to eradicate Vitamin D deficiency, which is deficient in almost 76% of the Indian population.

I have been connected with many NGOs and regulatory bodies to create awareness, implement preventive measures, and foster initiatives to address this health concern promptly.
